Berneray Shop and Bistro

5 minutes walk away -shop open 9:00 - 5:30

This stocks a wide range of groceries, fresh and frozen foods and alcohol. It also has cards and local souvenirs.


The Bistro -open 10:00 - 3:45 and 5:30 -8:30 in summer

This popular, recently opened restaurant has a broad menu including locally caught seafood and shellfish. They serve  a range of coffees, teas, home baking and lunches and, in the summer months, evening meals. 

The Coral Box

1 mile away - open 10:00 - 5: 00 (seasonal) 

The Coral Box is a small gift shop, near the harbour owned by a local photographer.  The shop stocks a wide range of unique Berneray cards, souvenirs, local crafts and personalised gifts. Many of the images on postcards and gifts are based on Berneray landscapes and wildlife.

Post Office

1 1/2 miles away- open 9:30 - 1:00

This is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and provides the normal range of post office services.

Seasonal vegetables can be bought from 1 Borve. and Viewforth, Rhudha Mhanains. Fresh eggs are available from road - end boxes at 1 Borve and Seal View 15 Backhill.

Bus Service

3 minutes walk away

The W16/17 bus south can be caught at the top of the road. Buses on the spinal route through North and South Uist leave at 07:30, 09: 50, 13:10 and 16:10. The circular route of North Uist through  Bayhead, Balranald Bird Reserve and Sollas  is serviced by the W18. 

Berneray Visitor Centre Seasonal Opening

Run by the knowledgeable volunteers of the Historical Society and situated near the harbour, Berneray Visitor Centre houses good information on local birds and fauna, geology and the history of Berneray. They have a large collection of Berneray photos. Leaflets and guided walks on  the island are also available here. The centre has Wifi, computer facilities and a WC.

Ocean Guides

Ocean Guides, located at Berneray Harbour,  offers guided boat trips of the Sound of Harris and outlying islands. Fishing trips and wildlife tours are also available.

Birlinn Yarn Company

Birlinn Yarn produces luxurious sheepskins and sturdy knitting wool in a range of colours, from its herd of Hebridean sheep which are bred on the island.
